The Manchester club will now be on high alert on the situation surrounding the Chilean superstar at Arsenal after Arsene Wenger failed to rule out any chances of Alexis Sanchez leaving the North London club in January.

Manchester City have been tracking Sanchez all summer in a bid to bolster their already devastingly effective attack of Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus, David Silva and Kevin DeBruyne, but had failed to price him away from the Emirates in a £60 million bid.

The forward who has endured a sticky week in which he failed to guide his country to the world cup next summer and miss out on a Ballon D’or nomination is understood to have his sights away from Arsenal, with negotiations between him and the club over a new contract hitting a dead end.

Speaking in a pre-match conference in London, Wenger who was initially adamant on letting the 28-year-old leave, has now admitted that he[Sanchez] could leave come January, and that, the door is open in case the player wishes to do so.

Manchester City will face a tough test luring him with reports from France suggesting that Paris Saint Germain also have their sights on Sanchez, who was involved in 34 league goals last term – 24 goals and 10 assists.

Nonetheless, all eyes will be on the Chilean who will look to rediscover his scoring form when Arsenal travel to Vicarage road on Saturday.
