Three time world player of the  year Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a new contract with Spanish giants Real Madrid extending his stay with the Spanish outfit to 2021 while adding three more years to his current contract that was due in 2018.

At an event held at the presidential Box of the Santiago Bernabeau, attended by a score of the club’s board and the player’s family, Ronaldo put paper to paper amidst smiles from his family reasserting his legendary status among the club’s all time greats.

Ronaldo, 31 joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 arriving at the Bernabeau from Manchester United for a then record £80m which saw the beginning of an illustrious career in which the Portuguese forward has scored 371 goals and helped Los Merengues to eight trophies including two champions league winners honors in 2014 and 2016.

The announcement of the deal comes a week after fellow teammate Gareth Bale, 27 penned a similar contract that keeps him tied to the Los Blancos till 2022.

And while there was hope that the former ManUnited forward would make a return to the English premier league, Ronaldo dashed these hopes reaffirming his desire to end his career with Real Madrid

“Of course I would like to end my career at this club, this is my penultimate contract, I want to be here for many years to come” he said

Madrid President Florentino Perez commended the player for attaining legendary status at the club.

“With Real Madrid you have conquered everything. You’re already a Real Madrid legend because you have become the top scorer in the club’s history”- perez
